The Creation of Tsidkenu

Where did Tsidkenu come from?

“TSIDKENU” (si-kay-noo) is a Hebrew word meaning “righteousness”
Tsidkenu - God of RighteousnessAt our church, about 6 or 7 years ago, we ran a 10 week evangelistic course. We were able to provide speakers to cover each weeks teaching session. However the fact we could provide speakers got me thinking; what about people who didn’t have the resources we have – especially people from small country congregations – who wanted to reach out to their neighbors/young people, who didn’t mind running small groups but didn’t have the gifting, time/energy etc required to do the “teaching time”. From here came the idea to prepare a series of videos that would do the “teaching time”, whilst freeing people to concentrate on other areas of ministry. From this initial thought, which incubated for a couple of years, has evolved into Tsidkenu – God of Righteousness, a nine part teaching resource, equipping today’s church to reach out to people 15 years and over with the good news of Jesus.

Our desire was to produce something that goes against modern belief that you can’t make video’s, especially for young people, that will last, because trends, music etc. change too quickly and therefore becomes uncool very quickly.
To combat this we began with two simple truths;

  1. Anything is possible for God
  2. God does not change

From there we looked at how to present teaching material in an interesting way without trying to be too trendy or cool. We looked at a number of possibilities and decided we would;

  1. age the footage by placing special colouring effects on them, thus not making the visuals from a particular time period;
  2. not use modern songs but use acoustics, and mood music instead, and
  3. create a documentary about a movie, thus encouraging viewers to approach the material from an analytical perspective rather than from a purely enjoyment point of view.

Therefore, what’s important in this series is not “when” events happened but “why and how” they happened, and how the characters in the movie react to them. Viewers are encouraged to either agree or disagree with the characters’ responses. In this way we believe we have created a visual teaching aid that is almost timeless. Big claims we know, but we are convinced that you can use this teaching tool for a number of years to come.

Who created Tsidkenu?

Tsidkenu was inspired by God and created by the Christian Video Production company Adonai Horizons, consisting of Fiona Ross and Luke Saddington. Both Fiona and Luke have a wealth of hands on experience in ministry; including teaching, counselling, youth ministry, video ministry, prayer ministry and running fellowship groups just to name a few. Fiona is also theologically trained by the Australian College of Theology.

In addition to Fiona and Luke, the Tsidkenu creation process involved a number of committed Christians from an array of denominations and theologically accredited backgrounds. This means Tsidkenu has truly been an example of the Body of Christ pouring their passions and skills into producing an incredible resource with the potential to introduce the world to the love of Christ, and to deepen this love for those already on the journey.
